It is with great pride that Mayor Don Walters invites the community to attend a ceremony to honor Cuyahoga Falls Police Officer Ted Davis with the Honorary Boulevard Street Naming Award. He will be recognized for his bravery and courage on Monday, July 31, at 6:00 p.m. The section of Broad Boulevard at the intersection of Third Street will be named "Officer Ted Davis Boulevard." The street sign hanging ceremony will be held rain or shine. The community is also invited to an official presentation at the City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Natatorium in the Erie Room.
“It is an honor to recognize Officer Davis for his steadfast drive and determination during his recovery and we are incredibly grateful to have him back,” stated Mayor Don Walters. “My Administration, the Police Department, and Officer Davis’ family, are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from the community that was shown during that time.”
On July 23, 2016, Officer Davis was severely injured when a driver intentionally rammed his police cruiser after he had called the City of Cuyahoga Falls Dispatch Center and threatened police officers. Despite his injuries, Officer Davis worked hard daily to get back to his job as a police officer. He was able to return to full duty on December 1, 2016.
Officer Davis started his career with the City of Cuyahoga Falls Police Department in 2005. In 2012, he was awarded The Ohio Distinguished Law Enforcement Meritorious Service Award for his life-saving actions in saving a stabbing victim and arresting her attacker. Officer Davis resides in the area with his wife and two sons.
The Honorary Boulevard Street Naming Award is an initiative used to pay homage to the people and organizations that selflessly give back to Cuyahoga Falls residents and the city as a whole. To qualify, a nominee must have made extraordinary volunteer contributions to the local community, arts, environment, education, neighborhoods, health, or human services. They are recognized for their substantial volunteer efforts, time commitments, and financial donations that directly impact the betterment of the community. It is important to note this is an honorary gesture only and does not change the official designation of Broad Boulevard for postal purposes.
