 Announcing the NextGen Meter Project

We are pleased to announce a major step toward a more efficient and sustainable city: the NextGen Meter Project. The City of Cuyahoga Falls is partnering with Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) to replace all water and electric meters over the next few years, in the NextGen Meter Project.

As our current meters reach the end of their design life, they become less efficient. Therefore, the City has decided to upgrade to a more advanced metering infrastructure, which will be implemented through the NextGen Meter Project in partnership with UMS.

The benefits of the new meters include more efficient and dependable monthly usage readings, consistent bill dates, proactive leak detection, and water conservation. Once the project is complete, the City’s metering system will become one of the most advanced in the region.

While this service is at no cost to customers, participation is mandatory. This project is planned to begin in Q3 2024 and is expected to take approximately 2 – 3 years to complete. The NextGen Meters Project will happen in two phases with UMS installers will begin installing water meters in Q3 2024. We anticipate that the Electric installation project phase will begin in late 2024/early 2025.

For Water Installations, UMS will notify residents via a USPS letter a week or two before starting work in an area with a request to schedule an installation appointment. However, you will be unable to schedule any appointments until you receive your letter in the mail.

The City encourages customers to schedule their appointments as soon as possible after receiving notice to minimize any service disruptions and to do their part to ensure that the NextGen Meter Project is completed on time and within budget. Customers can schedule their appointments online at http://cuyahogafalls.umsscheduling.com or by calling the UMS call center at (844) 741-6248.

More information about the NextGen Meter Project is available at www.CuyahogaFallsmeters.com and by calling (330) 971-8000. The City expects this project to contribute to the ongoing journey toward a more efficient and greener community and is counting on the support of customers to make this journey a reality.
