Mayor Don Walters is proud to announce that the City of Cuyahoga Falls will celebrate National Arbor Day with the annual program on Friday, April 25, at 3:30 p.m., at the Cuyahoga Falls Arboretum within Kennedy Park. The entrance to the Arboretum is at 2028 Munroe Falls Avenue, across from Water Works Aquatic Center. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Each year, the City plants a tree to recognize an individual or organization in Cuyahoga Falls that has made a significant impact on our community. We will honor the late Corporal Jack O. McClure this year by planting a frontier elm in his name. Corporal McClure was a lifelong Cuyahoga Falls resident and a veteran of World War II, earning the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Badge, the American Campaign Medal, and the European and African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal - with three Bronze Stars -   for his service in the Battle of the Bulge and other European engagements.

In addition to the annual Arbor Day Program, the City selects a local school to participate in an Arbor Day contest or service project, with this year's recognition going to Walsh Jesuit High School and its Advanced Placement Environmental Science classes & Green Team student group. The service project focused on surveying the condition and height of trees in the City Arboretum and identifying if the tree is native or not. The City Arborist will utilize this data to help manage and track each tree's health as it grows. A frontier elm will also be planted on the Walsh Jesuit Campus to commemorate Arbor Day 2025.
